Community Resource Services
Serving the Residents of Avon and Avon Lake
About Our Organization
You may be surprised to know that 8.5% of Avon and Avon Lake residents are living near the poverty level! Silent suffering is happening in our own backyard.
The reason I support Community Resource Services (CRS), financially and as a volunteer board member, can be illustrated through the following quote:
Ours is not the task of fixing the entire world at once, but of stretching out to mend the part of the world that is within our reach.”- Dr. Clarissa Pinkole Estes
I live in this community, and want to make a difference to the people living around me. CRS is the local social services agency that helps low to moderate income residents of Avon and Avon Lake meet a variety of basic needs. We operate a daily food pantry, provide financial assistance to families faced with possible eviction or utility disconnection, and offer programs to teach greater self-sufficiency and help people get back on their feet.
There are people living in our community who need a helping hand. In 2013, CRS helped 1,240 different individuals in one way or another. We distributed over 100,000 pounds of food, sent 254 kids back to school in August with school supplies, and provided gifts to 255 children at Christmas time. These are people that live in our “part of the world that is within our reach”... kids that go to school with our kids... friends we worship with at church & neighbors we see at the grocery store, sporting events, and many other places around town.
Another reason that I give to CRS is that I know that my donation is getting into the hands of those in need. Based on our most recent reviewed financial statements, for every dollar donated, approximately 87 cents goes directly to the people we serve. Not all charities can boast such an impressive statistic, and I for one am convinced that means my donation is truly making a difference.
Many of you have chosen to give to CRS in the past, and I want to thank you for your critical, on-going support. To those of you considering a donation for the first time, please join me in giving to CRS this year. Your neighbors in need depend on our help when faced with difficult times.
Thank you for your consideration.
